Move-In To Do’s:
Welcome to your new Keystone home!
1. Set up my utilities account (613-546-0000). Even if you don’t plan to move in on your date of occupancy, you are responsible for the utilities from that date.
Call ahead! PUC needs a lead-time of 5 business days to hook up an account.
***PLEASE CALL OUR OFFICE WITH YOUR APPLICATION NUMBER. WE CANNOT ASSIGN KEYS IF WE DO NOT HAVE THIS NUMBER.
2. Call Keystone to confirm my date of arrival.
Let us know when you expect to move-in to your unit. Give at least one week’s notice to ensure that your unit is clean and prepared just for you! We’ll want to confirm that you’ve set up your utilities at this point as well. 265/267 Princess – call ahead to book the elevator.
3. Pick up my lease and keys.
Keys are ready for pick-up on or after the 1st of the month. Visit the Keystone office between 8:30am & 4:30pm, Monday to Friday, prior to move-in to receive your new keys and a complete copy of your lease. Be sure to set up your move-in inspection.
4. Get access to laundry facilities.
All Keystone tenants have access to exclusive laundry facilities either in your building or a nearby Keystone property. Please contact the office for either the laundry code or a key to the premises.
5. Choose and set-up my rent payment options.
Pre-authorized debit – fill out a Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD) form at our office.
Post-dated cheques - Simply deliver post-dated cheques to our office.
6. Lease a parking space.
Keystone provides parking for lease on a month-to-month basis, either on-site at your unit or in one of our Queen Street parking lots between Clergy & Sydenham Streets. Call us to inquire about pricing and availability.
7. Keep my contact information up-to-date with Keystone.
It’s important that we are able to reach you - once you get your local numbers for your mobile, home phone, and email address, please call the office.
8. Maintain my smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
Instructions for operating carbon monoxide detectors are available at www.keyprop.com/comonitors - please be sure to download them and maintain the detector accordingly.
Test smoke detector(s) often and replace the batteries twice a year. We recommend that you replace them when you change your clocks in the fall and spring.
9. Put out my garbage.
Some Keystone apartment buildings feature garbage rooms or dumpsters for disposing of garbage on an as needed basis. E-mail firstname.lastname@example.org to find out where to put garbage in your building. Garbage will be picked up from all Keystone tenants living east of University Avenue on Tuesday mornings, so be sure to put your garbage on the curb on Monday nights after 6:00 p.m. Remember if there is a long weekend then garbage day moves ahead to Wednesday morning pickup. Garbage is to be kept in your unit until garbage day.
Going-on-vacation To Do’s:
Away for an extended time or away at the beginning of your lease?
1. Notify Keystone that I will be away and leave my emergency contact number.
2. Ensure someone is watching my unit.
You are responsible for the unit throughout the term of your lease, whether living in the unit or not. If you are away during the summer or winter break, ensure someone visits your unit a few times a week.
Keystone provides a fee service for monitoring units. Call us to enquire about pricing.
3. Before I leave, pay my rent for the summer months or for the time period I am away.
Renewal To Do’s:
Renewing your lease with Keystone for another year? We hope you do!
1. Give notice to renew or vacate.
Let us know early whether you will be renewing your lease or moving-out by calling the office. If your lease expires in April, let us know in December. If your lease expires in August, let us know in April.
Move-Out To Do’s:
Please don’t leave us…but if you must…
1. Book final move-out inspection.
We need to do a final move-out inspection of your unit with you present. Let us know a week in advance of when you plan to move out so that we can book this appointment with you.
2. Clean your unit.
All units with carpet(s) must be steam-cleaned as per your lease. You can call Keystone to arrange for cleaning. It’s your responsibility to leave your unit in showroom condition. Please ensure that all of your belongings and garbage are removed from your unit upon move-out and that your unit is thoroughly cleaned.
Keystone provides a move-out cleaning service for our tenants. Pre-arrange this service and quote by calling us at 613-546-5555.
3. Cancel your utilities.
Utilities are your responsibility until the last day of your lease and they must be left on and in your name until that date. Call PUC now to book the cancellation of your utilities for the last day of your lease.
4. Forward your mail.
For a reasonable fee, you can have Canada Post forward mail in your name to your forwarding address. This can be done at the post office at the corner of Bagot and Clarence Street. Be sure to leave Keystone with your forwarding address so that we can forward any necessary correspondence to you as well.
***NOTE: Should you leave your unit before the end of your lease, you must ensure that someone visits it a few times per week. Keystone provides this check-up service. Pre-arrange the service by calling us.***
We would like to thank-you for your tenancy and wish you luck in your future endeavours.
